Every year my Church chooses a theme. This year's theme is based on the question: "What if you had one year to live?"As a result of a few near-death situations experienced by our priests and an abnormally high number of deaths in our church family this year, this seems like an apt focus for us.
I must admit, the challenge of living my life as though its my last year is stressful. If I had one last year to live, what choices would I really make? This was actually a topic in the show House once. Dr. Wilson the oncologist had diagnosed a patient with cancer and told him he had 6 months to live. Later, he figured out that the biopsy was a false positive and upon telling the man that he actually was going to live and not die, the man was upset at "the good news." Turns out that after having a few good-bye parties and selling his home, he was ready to go. He had been happy knowing he was dying and the thought of him not being able to die was frustrating, to say the least. Turns out, that "living is hard and dying is good," said Wilson.
Thankfully, the Church has focus areas for us each couple months to keep us on track. The first is repenting of our sins, the second is to mend broken relationships and saying our sorry's, and so on...
It should be an exciting and challenging year. eeeekk
