This weekend, I ran the Charlottesville Ten Miler. I did it in about two hours, which was my goal. I was a little disappointed because I had to walk more hills than I wanted after I got to mile 6. Oh well. I'll try to do better next time. Thank God that's not going to be the next two years (the next two Aprils of my life will be Step 1 and Step 2 of the Boards). The 10miler was awesome though. I ran for my grandma, who died a week ago. I had this picture on the back of my shirt. I almost cried twice during the run. The first was at the beginning. It was emotionally overwhelming to see the excitement, support and encouragement. Running it turns out, is a very human activity. Your entire body and spirit gets into it. It's fabulous in that way.
The second time was running past the baptist church on Grady, where the church choir was singing praises. I really loved that. I loved their smiles and listening them worship God and His Creation while I ran past them. Thank you for reminding me half way on my run what and who I'm running for!!
After the run, everyone was devouring lettuce heads, pizza, bananas and chocolate chip cookies. Man, that pizza smelled good but I had totally lost my appetite during that run. I took a cookie to go because I knew I would want it later. (I just finished it today....4 days after the run). I went home that day, had a lot of spiced tea with my family and those who came to offer their condolences to us and then took a great nap, from which I woke up famished and finally ate.
So glad I did the ten miler....even though I was slow. That doesn't matter. I ran ten miles. And I NEVER would have thought I would be able to do that just last year.
